To Britain’s Labour Party

Which is beside itself because the government of Prime Minister Tony Blair — a Labour member himself, lest we forget — is permitting the U.S. to resupply the Israel Defense Forces with munitions shipped on cargo aircraft that are refueling in Britain.

Great Britain is a great democracy. And arguably, in a parliamentary system, where the executive and legislative functions are intertwined, members have a larger responsibility than does the U.S. Congress. If popular sentiment in Britain continues to sour on America, thus constraining the world’s most important alliance and even weakening Britain, Labour backbenchers will have only themselves to blame.
