“I doubt whether there’s any magic formula that will give us better generals. MacArthur was arguably our greatest general, and certainly a master of the English language (his farewell to the Corps of Cadets is one of the best-written speeches in history), but he was a complex, difficult man whom many of his subordinates detested. 360 degree evaluations might have ended his career early.”
